A handsome French writing table or desk in the Louis XVI style, featuring an embossed leather top set within an antique brass surround, over a frieze with paneled sides and brass accents and four brass-mounted drawers, the right facing one is double fronted - containing a false floor revealing a secret compartment, each drawer with brass hardware, the drawer configuration is replicated to the back of the desk - enhancing its appearance - so when placed in a central position it may be pleasantly viewed from both sides.
Both ends feature a pull-out writing surface with embossed leather - the hidden extension to either side of the desk, when revealed and extended, almost doubles the working space. Leather embossing includes a small gold bouquet detail at each corner. Resting on four elegant reeded and tapered legs with brass ferrule caps.
